Last year, it felt that FIFA’s dominance was wavering. Like a post-Fergie Man Utd, the impervious crown has shifted. Not in commercial triumph, of course. In that both United and FIFA are almost unassailable, but in finesse and excellence. In a year in which FIFA 15 felt stagnant, critics and aficionados shifted back towards Konami’s rejuvenated Pro Evolution Soccer. While EA’s money-men might not have blinked, this subtle but significant shift would have hurt the developers. They had made FIFA the undisputed champion, they want that feeling back again. Offline you will be able to play that side of the FUT stuff as well and then of course there is the Career Mode. Career Mode has come leaps and bounds over the last few years, allowing you to manage things as you see fit with your team. It still suffers from some really odd issues like players chatting to you about not playing in the last match, before you have even started… weird.
All in all, career mode is the same as last year. The scouting system is a little better and you have the option of playing pre-season tournaments, but other than that it’s the same and has the same problems and positives as before. Be a Pro is exactly the same as the last few versions of FIFA. You can see it’s just ported with little love or energy. It’s rather dull. After watching a brief clip of Gary Neville rejecting Jamie Carragher’s input into a virtual team (and resulting in a major overreaction from the duo after scoring with their star strung digital team), players are able to select from a series of stars as to whom will reside on their team. This team can be used to generate a pot of coins which can ultimately be ploughed into building up the perfect dream team in the original form of FUT.
Online, things are a little bit different. We can't include a game's fanbase when it comes to calculating a score for a review, but unless you actually know who you're playing against, online play in FIFA 16 is a bust. Everything seems to work well enough, but the players you're matched up against will abuse the fact that skills and tricks - particularly the "fake shot" - are still massively, massively overpowered. It isn't fun to the see "OMG CR7 FTW!" crowd who would rather set themselves on fire than play as anyone other than Real Madrid carve through your defence time and time again after comically and unrealistically pulling off ten fake shots in a row to get around your helpless defence before finessing the ball into the bottom corner. Then you have the griefers, which appear to make up a massive, massive percentage.
In a drop-in Pro Clubs match, you'll find 7 players playing the game properly and then one guy in goal who thinks it's hilarious to catch the ball from a corner and then turn around to throw the ball out for another corner thirty times in a row. EA touted its versatile new Ignite game engine when the current generation of consoles came out a couple of years ago. Even then, I was skeptical about the advancements it brought to FIFA’s visuals. Now, I’m just disappointed. When compared to Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer (PES), FIFA is starting to look dated. The player models haven’t changed much. They still have a plastic patina that makes them less like flesh-and-blood humans and more like action figures. Hair is even worse, with most players sporting cuts from a vanilla catalog of styles.
When it comes to on-line

FIFA 16 is a fascinating animal in a variety of ways and you will definitely get it when you are looking to get a recommendation from me. For one, I actually enjoy FIFA matches, and two I really enjoy FIFA matches. But on its own values as compared with FIFA 15 it is a much better game no question. It does not have as many bombastic, overhead kick on wonder goals, it is definitely not as reachable, it does not take kindly to 180 degree passes and it is difficult to create remorse edge opportunities.
