FIFA 16 is an ongoing evolution of the product

Adding women’s teams is perhaps the biggest - and, as IGN notes, most progressive - change to the way that the game works. “Putting aside the longstanding misgivings about how Ultimate Team commodifies the magic of football, and how it sort of encourages kids to gamble, it’s great,” writes Gamespot. “Draft takes the pleasure of building a team--piecing together strong chemistry, the thrill of opening packs--and gives it to you without the need to pull your main team apart”. Play as Women's National Teams. Choose from one of 12 Women's National Teams and compete in Match Day, an Offline Tournament, Online Seasons Cup, and Online Friendly Matches. The available teams are: Germany, USA, France, Sweden, England, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Spain, China, Italy, Mexico.

FIFA 16 is a landmark for the franchise - Women's National Teams are finally in the game (Yet not deemed important enough to have clubs) but has it really changed? The sporting behemoth has been ridiculed a little over the past couple of years for not changing much, even though the games have been as enjoyable as ever. FIFA 16, however, seems to have taken a backwards step. There are many ways to tackle options. You can use fake tackles to frustrate a opponent and make them confused and react the situation early.Air station solution will help to cross, and systemic treatment can temporarily delete an opposing player from attack and to give you a slight edge at the counter of the original. They were pretty clear that FIFA 16 was the end of that, and based on my time with it so far, they're closer than they've ever been to harmonising those all important football fundamentals, in combination with the edge of your seat moments that make FIFA well... FIFA.

One example being me coming out of defence with Marcelo at left back, but I'd hit a dead end around half way and needed to pass backwards. In FIFA 15, you'd need to take at least two dribble touches to turn your player 360 degrees, or you'd have to play a reverse pass or back-heel. With No Touch Dribbling you can (while the ball is still rolling) move around to the side of the ball to simply pass backwards from a more natural body position. It sounds almost too simple, like "so what", but I'm really intrigued to see how the community use this feature when it's out in the wild. It's certainly going to require some time and experimentation to get the best from it. EA hammered home to us all day long that what they wanted from FIFA 16's gameplay above all else, was "balance, balance and more balance". They felt previous FIFA's had one particularly efficient tactic which was adopted on mass by us all in the name of simply winning.

In short, defences are stiffer and sterner and--in order to balance this bit of rebalancing--there are a few new attacking options, too. The most obvious is the no-touch dribbling, which means players in possession of the ball can keep it rolling at their feet while feinting and turning over and around it--a Messi-dance of misdirection that the dev team liken to a clutch control for an engine. It’s activated by holding down a shoulder button, and can be combined with skill moves for extra flair and frustration. There’s also what’s officially known as "passing with purpose"--pinged balls to feet designed to speed through a midfield more prone to interceptions (that aggressive AI) and gaps in defences. It’ll need fine timing, and a striker with a good touch, but done right it’s more powerful than a regular through-ball.

Anyone playing as a defender would be probably be better off the Newcastle Jets’ wooden-spoon winning season from last year on repeat. Most of those gripes are based on not playing as top-clubs, so it won’t be a big deal for those who don’t play in the bottom leagues. But we’d love EA and FIFA to take the local leagues more seriously for the fans. FIFA’s run at the top continues with FIFA 16 which is more than just a tweak or two (hello women’s game!), but it’s getting very close with PES stepping up. FIFA 16 is an ongoing evolution of the product.
