EA has revealed the new way gamers will be able to attack their opposition's goal, with lead gameplay producer for FIFA 17, Sam Rivera, spilling the beans earlier this week. Bayern Munich was able to move on in the competition by drawing the fixture 2-2. Active Intelligence System is not something players will execute themselves. The new feature introduces constant spatial analysis in FIFA 17, which gives players a chance to better identify opportunities in attack.
When you are on the ball your teammates understand if you can make a pass and adjust their movement to show for you or make a new run," according to the description on the site. This means teammates will be more perceptive to defense gaps, and may even make fake runs to fool the opponent. Because of Munich’s performance in the first leg, the German team was able to knock Benfica out of the competition with 3-2 goal aggregate. Munich’s midfielder, Arturo Vidal, was able to find the back of the net in both legs earning him a 87 ratings MOTM card.
This feature is just one of the many new tweaks EA Sports has introduced to "FIFA 17." The game will now feature new attacking techniques to give players more ways to score a goal on the field, including Driven Finish, Downwards Headers, Driven Goal Kicks and Threaded Through Pass. Another feature which was introduced early this month is the Set Piece Rewrite. The set piece rewrite gives you more creativity, variety and control in the most decisive moments of any match," EA Sports said on the site. "Now you have the freedom to position your player and dictate their approach on dead balls, allowing for a wider variety when taking free kicks and penalties."
Two new driven shots can be used in FIFA 17, the first is a low shot that is powered up like a normal shot but requires you to press the shoot button a second time before making contact with the ball. EA says this results in a ball that is low to the ground and great for when you’re aiming at the bottom corners of the goal. The enhancement of most consequence is the Active Intelligence System. FIFA’s AI has been rightly criticised for years, but that all changes in FIFA 17. Teammates no longer run in a predicable direct line to goal.
They have more tact and are smarter at running into space – including running into bad positions to make more space for other teammates. In an hour of gameplay, it was only obvious during a few quality through-balls. But creative AI should be a subtle improvement, if it’s to remain imaginative for the duration of a long season. With the news that FIFA 17 will be built using DICE’s Frostbite engine, gamers have eagerly been awaiting the new changes coming in this year’s title. EA Sports have now shown off the game’s improved player models as well as a 5-year partnership with Italian Champions Juventus.
Youtuber Cycu1 then took this newly released footage and compared it to the same player models in FIFA 16. The one thing that remains to be answered is if Frostbite will affect the actual gameplay or if it will only offer graphical improvement. It should also be noted that because of this deal, the Juventus players were specifically motion-capped, so a better comparison would include players that haven’t been given this special treatment.
