On March 25, 2021, Blizzard announced in the official WoW forum that it would remove some options for purchasing game time. Specifically, it is about the possibility of a one-off purchase of 30, 90 and 180 days of game time.
Those who take out a continuous subscription can still choose these options and continue to benefit from reduced prices.
As the reason for the change, Blizzard named only "a review of the services available in all currencies" - it is not clear why exactly the additional options have to be omitted.
This means that from now on only the 60-day variant is available for purchase, which costs 25.98 euros. The other variants, each with 30 or 180 days, have completely disappeared from the offer. As of now, Blizzard Entertainment has not given an official explanation as to why this change came about in the first place. Therefore, of course, there is a lot of room for speculation. The website Wowhead assumes, for example, that Blizzard wants to take action against the equally active and annoying bots in World of Warcraft (buy now 14.99 €) in this way. They very often use the WoW tokens to buy the 30-day game time and thus remain active. Since this "small" variant is no longer available, Blizzard is hoping to curb bot activities.
Blizzard did not disclose the exact reason for the changes, using only the rule to conduct a review of available services. Such a translation does not satisfy players who criticize Blizzard for this type of exit. For many, removing longer periods of Game Time simply means spending more on your favorite game. Buying access for a longer period of time is more profitable. On the other hand, there are also people who take breaks from WoW and prefer to buy Game Time instead of worrying about turning off the automatically renewed subscription. For them, change is also burdensome.
Despite this, the way the news was communicated left more than one fan confused and angry. Many thought it was a general change in the service and took advantage of the internet for the only thing it serves: to rant and rant against the publication to the pulse of outrage.
Those who have financed their subscription in this way now have to invest 78 instead of 66 euros of their credit for 180 days. As a result, a full six instead of the previous five WoW brands are due for this.
